Where can I find social opportunities in my area?
There are many social opportunities in the Tri-County area. Most adults look for opportunities that involve their interest.
One of the easiest ways to find groups of people with similar interests is Meet Up. This is a web based service where people plan events and invite anyone else who is interested to their meeting. The web address for Meet Up is https://www.meetup.com/cities/us/mi/lansing/. Meet Ups are found with a 25 mile radius of the main city, in this case Lansing.
Another good location is the YMCA, they have a variety of activities and classes. Libraries are another good place to visit and join others. Many communities offer Community Education classes. They also have a variety of parks offering many recreational opportunities. The Capital Area Down Syndrome Association(CADSA) has social clubs including Club21Plus. For more information regarding this activity and other go to their webpage. Many faith communities have groups for young adults.
AL!VE, an experience-based destination health park, provides inspiration and support for the greater Charlotte and mid-Michigan communities to transform, empower, and enhance their personal well-being. AL!VE is open to everyone and everyone is welcome. It offers many free activities like open basketball in SOAR, open rock climbing on ASCEND, EXPLORE – the walking path, and access to courtyards PONDER and REFLECT; plus equipment for the activity gym, and e-readers and MP3 players. There are also several fee-based features and offerings, such as cooking and art classes, spa treatments and group exercise classes.
Eaton County communities offer community education classes as well as parks and recreations departments.
