HIGH SCHOOL vs POST-SECONDARY
Tell me about High School vs Post-Secondary training.
Students in high school are directed under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). The purpose of IDEA is to ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) emphasizing special education and related services designed to meet student’s individual needs and prepare them for further education, training, employment and independent living. With IDEA this is considered a right for students with disabilities driven by an IEP (Individual Education Program), team approach.
Post-Secondary is directed by ADA (American with Disabilities Act). The purpose of the ADA is to provide a clear and comprehensive mandate for eliminating discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Proper goals are to assure equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities. With ADA this is considered eligibility based and is driven by the individual with a disability.
